What We Do

Our financial advisers are able to provide financial advice in relation to the following:

Finance: Residential Loans, Refinancing, Debt Consolidation, Personal Loans, Business Loans, Commercial Property Loans, Review Existing Loans, Money Management

Insurance: Life Insurance, Trauma Insurance, Income/Mortgage Protection Insurance, Permanent Disability Insurance, Medical/Health Insurance

Wealth: KiwiSaver

We also deliver the SMART Home Loans Academy — Mortgage Rapid Repay Coaching Programme, an educational coaching programme that may include a one-on-one session with a Financial Adviser. See “Academy / Coaching Fees” below for how this is paid for.

Who We Work With

At SMART we maintain contractual relationships to enable us to place business with reputable lenders, insurance companies and investment companies, including major banks, non-bank lenders and finance companies, insurance companies (such as AIA, Cigna, Fidelity Life, NIB, Partners Life), and wealth providers. We periodically review these supplier companies to ensure they meet the needs of our clients and align with our core values.

How We Get Paid

For loans, SMART receives commission from the bank or lender with whom we arranged the loan. If you decide to take out the loan, the bank/lender will pay a commission to SMART and your financial adviser, based on the loan amount borrowed. Where a lender does not pay a commission, a fee is payable based on the percentage of borrowings, disclosed at the time advice is provided.

For life and health insurance, SMART receives commission from the insurance companies on whose policies we give advice, based on the premium. For KiwiSaver, SMART receives commission from the provider you are arranged with, for new applications and the balance amount. SMART receives an ongoing commission for any fire and general insurance referrals which result in a policy being issued.

SMART pays commission received to the relevant Financial Adviser whilst retaining a portion for marketing, lead generation, compliance support, training, administration support and other general business expenditure.

How Much Does Our Service Cost?

All initial consultations with SMART do not bear any up-front professional service fees.

For Loans and Finance, SMART may charge a fee under the following circumstances: if the loan is less than $200,000; if we obtain a pre-approved loan offer that meets your specified needs and you decide not to proceed with the offer through us; or a cancellation fee if the loan is repaid in full or part, or refinanced, within 28 months of inception.

For Insurance, SMART may charge a cancellation fee where a client cancels or reduces a life or health insurance policy within two years of inception. The manner in which any fee is payable will be advised at the time advice is provided.

Academy / Coaching Fees

[Fee figure below is provisional and under review — confirm before this page goes live with paid advertising.]

If you join the SMART Home Loans Academy (Mortgage Rapid Repay Coaching Programme), a course fee applies (currently $2,997, or a payment plan of $350 per month over 10 months plus a $99 set-up fee). This fee is paid for access to the Course content, the one-on-one review session and the private members’ group — it is a coaching/education fee, not a financial advice fee, and we do not receive it as commission.

Where the one-on-one review session includes regulated financial advice, that advice is provided within your course access at no additional charge, and the adviser does not earn extra commission for it. If you later engage us separately for mortgage, insurance or KiwiSaver advice, the fee and commission arrangements described above apply to that engagement and will be disclosed to you again at that time.

Conflicts of Interest and Incentives

From time to time, product providers may invite us to sponsored events or give us tickets, gifts or other incentives. To ensure our financial advisers prioritise the client's interest above their own, they follow an advice process based on the client's goals and circumstances. All our financial advisers undergo regular training on managing conflicts of interest. We maintain registers of conflicts of interest and the gifts and incentives we receive, and undertake an annual review of our compliance programme.
